Heidi & Seal

Recently, hubby and I have been watching a few live-concerts in h.d. on t.v late at night. One of the most noteworthy performances was by Seal, who sounds even better live. Just judging by the emotions in his music, the way he sings and what we've seen and heard in the media, he appears to be a very romantic man.

As you may know, Seal married Heidi Klum, German supermodel and host of Project Runway. Prior to the wedding, In 2004, Seal whisked Heidi by helicopter to a mountain glacier igloo complete with strewn rose petals and glimmering candles. (not to mention the yellow diamond engagement ring worth $150,000).

I'm generally unphased by the "secret life" of celebs or candid photos. I think they too should have a right to privacy, regardless how famous. Especially when celebrities take their children out to fun events. As Susan Sarandon once noted, "at home I'm just mom" - she's usually seen on the baseball field with her son, looking more like a "soccer-mom" than an actress.

However, recent footage of Seal's family pumpkin-shopping was so cute and heart-warming that I just had to share it with the rest of you. It shows Heidi - still in top shape, with a cute baby-belly out-to-here and Seal carrying her daughter, and toting a professional camera around.

At this day and age, there are still a lot of people who don't believe in interracial relationships, quick to come up with excuses like - "the poor kids will never really know where they belong" - same goes for interracial adoptions (Madonna). Anyone willing to give a child a better home should be commended, not slandered. I doubt Madonna sat down one day and said to herself " how can I make headlines again? I got it, I will adopt a black baby from Africa!"

If African-american leaders here in the US are so worried that a black child may not bea fit for a caucasian foster / adopted family they should see to it that these children find a home in african-american homes. This is racism nonetheless... you can educate caucasian adoptive families about challenges the children may or may not face but one thing is for sure...if a child experiences love, color will become irrelevant.

Heidi Klum has a child from a previous relationship that happens to look like her mommy, blue eyes, long, blonde hair. Seal is very loving, affectionate with the little girl, obviously loving mom AND child very much! They're just an example - but they're celebrities and perhaps by living their life so publicly, they're making a statement - simply by living their life the way they chose to!

As a former foster-child, discussions about race and what child to place into what family is simply ridiculous! You find good and bad people, good and bad foster-homes - good and bad white and black, asian and latino people.

Love knows no color - when you love from your heart and are not so shallow to just place value on appearances, you may just find happiness. Seal and Hei. They didn't one day set out on a mission, coming up with the great master-plan of "let's shock the world and get married" They simply fell in love, it happens, deal with it, people.
